Having an aquarium represents a series of obligations and responsibilities that contribute to the full development and quality of life of the species that occupy that space. Its maintenance and care is not simply for the fact of maintaining a beautiful environment in the eyes of external observers, but to create adequate health conditions.
For this, it is important to establish a balance of both internal and external agents. Using filters for this, which are essential to keep the water crystal clear in aquariums and that their environment is free of impurities that could kill the fish.
What is cloudy water?
They are those waters that due to the sudden proliferation of colonies of bacteria, which grow disproportionately, become cloudy. They can be seen with the naked eye, causing the fish to not be seen.
This proliferation of bacteria can be caused by contamination caused by the death of fish, plants, or because there has been an increase in nutrients in the water, in particular nitrates and phosphates. Other causes and the most common is overfeeding, since food residues remain without being consumed by the fish, leading to their decomposition.
Everything that decomposes in the fish tanks represents a food source for these scavengers.
What are filters and their types?
The filter is a mechanism whose function is to make the water circulate through it, eliminating any impurities it contains, thus achieving that the water is purified by passing through the different filter materials.
The purpose of having a filter in your aquarium is to recycle the water and return it clean and crystal clear after having eliminated all those residues that contaminate the water.
The filter is made up of a hydraulic pump as the main element, which has the function of pumping the water through the different filter materials, which is made up of different levels of filtering which vary according to their porosity.
Types of filters:
Interiors:
They are those that are inside the aquarium and completely submerged under water. They are ideal for small to medium volume aquariums.
Exteriors:
They are those who are outside the aquarium. This type of filter, unlike the previous one, is indicated for large volume aquariums.
The filters according to their configuration and operation can be: Mechanical, chemical and biological.
mechanical filtering.
It is responsible for preventing those solid waste particles that remain on the surface from reaching the bottom of the aquarium, depending on the size of what is trapped on the porosity of the filters .
chemical filtering.
Its main element is activated carbon, used to change the chemical composition of the water, and trap some chemical elements that harm life in the fish tank.
Biological filtering.
Its origin is natural, that is, it is not created by the hand of man, and it is based on the nitrogen cycle, causing bacteria to disappear naturally.
