Corals often come straight out of the ocean, either farmed or wild-caught.
When the corals are shipped to the local store, they are not treated for pests.
It is up to the store to properly quarantine and submerge all incoming cattle, which rarely happens. It is very likely that the coral you buy has infestations or at least has been in the same tank with other infested corals.
And there is a whole host of coral pests that find their way into the store or your aquarium.
Prevention is the key word here. Once a pest has found its way into your aquarium, it is very difficult to completely eradicate it.
Following Coral Protec's simple procedure should put you in a better position to avoid pests in your aquarium.

Use a small power head to keep the water moving and place the coral in the container. If you don't have a power head, gently shake the coral in the bath.
Keep the coral in the dip for 2-5 minutes, depending on the severity of the problem. Observe coral during treatment for evidence of adverse reactions such as excessive thinning.
After 2-5 minutes, remove the coral and discard the mixture. Rinse the coral with clean aquarium water and place it in the aquarium.
Do not reuse the coral bath, as the creatures expelled during the bath can release toxins.
Clean the syringe and/or container with fresh water after use.
