Dog Knee Protector
When should we put on a knee protector for dogs?
Mainly and only when a veterinarian advises us and prescribes it, possibly as a preventive measure and before a possible intervention, to reduce inflammation, relieve pain and prevent loss of muscle mass.
Never use a knee protector on your own, since we can worsen the movement of our pet, harming the symptoms and the pathology.
The knee protector is recommended to stabilize the muscles, compensating for the loss of functionality of the joints and relieving pain in cases of arthritis/osteoarthritis and providing more heat and better blood circulation , cruciate ligament injury, meniscus injury, problems in patella or tendinitis.
It reduces pain and inflammation by improving the balance between the groups of muscles involved. The improvement of flexibility in tense muscles allows the dog to recover a natural movement of the extremity.
The slight pressure exerted by this superficial orthosis deconcentrates the workloads of the joint, increasing its stability and preventing the evolution of the damage towards a more serious state.
In cases of damage to the cruciate ligaments , the dog can use the knee protector before surgery (along with the prescribed treatment) to prevent loss of muscle mass.
After the operation, you can use the protector again after 5 days, once the inflammation has subsided. For these first 5 days, the application of cold is recommended.
How to use:
The knee protector should stretch up the dog's leg so that it covers the knee area correctly.
Place the support strap of the protector below the abdomen and above the back and close the Velcro.
Be careful not to damage the dog during placement, exerting force on the protector, but respecting the natural position of the knee.
