It is a replacement for the permanent test reagent for CO2 and PH.

The higher the pH, the less acid there is in the water; the proportion of bases is then higher (the opposite of acids).
The lower the pH, the more acid the water contains. It is mainly used for CO2 fertilization control.
Many permanent CO2 tests are filled with a mixture of aquarium water and indicator. This means that the KH in the aquarium must always be determined separately in order to deduce the correct CO2 content.
This makes it possible to read the CO2 content directly and independently of other acids in the aquarium water (eg humic acids or nitrates) as a numerical value in milligrams per liter.
