Level 1: Convalescent cats and dogs confined in a cage. It is recommended to achieve Resting Energy Requirements (REM) according to the formula:

Level 2: Active dog finishing its convalescence period, or in maintenance. It is recommended to reach the Maintenance Energy Requirements (REM) according to the formula:
Dog: REM (in kcal/day) = 132 x (body weight in kg) 0.73. The amount of food should be reassessed according to the clinical evolution of the animal. In case of loss of appetite, a progressive refeeding program is recommended:
Loss of appetite for < 3 days: Plan to meet requirements in 3 days: Day 1: 1/3 of requirements, Day 2: 2/3 of requirements, Day 3: Full requirements.
Loss of appetite for > or = 3 days: plan to meet requirements in 5 days: Day 1: 1/4 of requirements, day 2: 1/2 of requirements, day 3: 2/3 of requirements, day 4: 3/4 of the requirements, day 5: total requirements.
