Indications:
Chronic kidney failure (CRF).
Management of recurrences of urolithiasis that require urine alkalinization: urate and cystine uroliths.
Management of recurrences of calcium oxalate uroliths in dogs with compromised renal function.
Contraindications:
Gestation, lactation, growth.
Pancreatitis or a history of episodes of pancreatitis.
Hyperlipidemia.

Treatment duration:
Dietary treatment is prescribed for a minimum duration of 6 months, after this period it will be necessary to assess its continuation according to veterinary criteria. When kidney damage affects 3/4 of the kidneys, the disease is considered irreversible, maintaining dietary therapy for life.
A restricted intake of phosphorus is essential to curb secondary hyperparathyroidism that causes worsening kidney failure.
Long-chain omega 3 fatty acids (EPA, DHA) help limit the drop in glomerular filtration rate (anti-inflammatory action).
Flavanols (a specific type of polyphenols) have two main effects: they slow down the oxidative process and promote kidney perfusion.
An increase in uraemia can induce the formation of ulcers in the gastric and intestinal mucosa. The combination of zeolite and FOS minimize this risk.
Additional Information:
Dogs with kidney failure have less appetite, so a food with high palatability is essential. Renal Canine kibble is easy to chew, even for dogs with gingivitis. Dogs with kidney failure are generally elderly: Renal Canine has a high content of antioxidants to fight free radicals, whose negative effects increase with age.
