Malawi/Victoria Buffer is a blend of carbonate salts designed to enhance the natural environment of cichlids by increasing carbonate hardness, buffering capacity and pH. It is formulated to maintain a pH of 7.8 to 8.4. For optimal replication of the Malawi/Victoria Lake environment, use with Cichlid Lake Salt, Cichlid Trace and NutriDiet Cichlid Flakes.


Buffers at pH 7.8 - 8.4.
Raises KH as well as pH.
It will not affect the GH.


Use 6 g (one level teaspoon) per 40-80 L (10-20 US gal) of water each day until desired pH is reached and maintained. Thereafter, use as needed to maintain pH, generally no more than once every two to three weeks. For accurate dosing, use the Seachem Digital Scoop Scale.

It is best to dissolve it in fresh water before use. Use when setting up an aquarium or doing water changes (preferably after adding Seachem Cichlid Lake Salt) and between water changes as needed to maintain pH.

It is formulated to maintain a pH between 7.8 and 8.4, depending on the amount used. To achieve a pH below 7.8, you can use Seachem's acid in combination with Malawi/Victoria. To achieve a pH higher than 8.4, use Tanganyika.
