When we raise birds, it is important to ensure that our females maintain adequate calcium levels to prevent their bodies from consuming the calcium present in their blood, which could cause problems during egg laying.

When providing the cuttlefish bone to our birds, we must place several in the cage and observe if they consume them. In case we notice that our birds do not peck the bone, it may be because they are unaware of this food and its benefits, especially if they are young birds.

If we find ourselves in this situation, we can gently scrape the cuttlefish bone with a knife to obtain powder and place it in a container to encourage our birds to try it and get used to its taste. Also, we can mix the powder with the food in another container, such as an exotic bird food mix, to trick them a bit into gradually getting used to the new food.

Once we carry out these steps, we will gradually see how our birds begin to peck the cuttlefish bone on a regular basis, benefiting from its calcium content.

It is important to note that this product can be used as a secondary supplement, since some studies indicate that its absorption is not complete. However, it is still beneficial for filing birds' beaks and nails.

In addition to its use in bird cages, the cuttlefish bone can also be left whole in the terrarium for turtles, who will be able to consume it at will. This has the added benefit of helping to smooth down their beaks, preventing excessive growth.
